Height: 10.1cm
Provenance:
Anonymous sale, Sotheby’s London, 20th June 2002, lot 463
Information:
The carver is familiar from the very distinctive sharp and dramatically undercut chin, as well as the style of decoration to the coat. For another example, see the catalogue of the H.G. Beasley collection, Sotheby’s London, 14th March 1984, lot 87, illustrated in colour on p. 43, or one on the cover of the Eskenazi catalogue of the Jacques Carré collection. A variant was in the Donald C. Mendelson collection, illustrated on the front cover of the Christie’s London catalogue, 28th October 1981, and one with a boar across his shoulders is in the Kurstin collection, Miami
